More dumb than smart.

What I find most interesting is that so many people can hold multiple points of view which are mutually exclusive of each other yet they believe all those points of view are true. I call it muddled thinking.
Xena1234 · 51-55, F
@hippyjoe1955 I call it stupid. I give one point of view and that is it.

I think education has failed to prepare people for the multi-media environment where you can choose the news to support your existing view. Critical thinking and understanding how to research for supporting evidence - things like this are sorely missing. There's an emerging trend that personal opinions are all valid.
So people are being manipulated big time on all sides of politics, alternative medicines, etc. Therefore people are 'dumb' because they do not know how to manage the information at their fingertips.

@Abstraction Democracy does ask for personal opinions, and we still live in that climate even if it has changed. If I come to think about it, in the last 20 years in how people communicate there has been something that lets them they didn't have say 25 years ago. Of course the culture will change as one now has to confront opinions they never had to then.
Opinion, it's only been the last five years where politics actually achieved manipulating this. The rest, never before has someone had health just one Google search away; I'm not saying that's health but it's better than denial and in a healthcare system struggling to meet demand it is best people learn what they can; that doesn't mean diagnosing yourself and not seeing the doctor.

And, some people will argue with me without even knowing the facts. They are too lazy to even Google. I had morons tell me that California never had the death penalty, when I said Manson should have been executed long ago, LOL

Most people have always been dumb in every time.
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
Intelligence hasn't changed but North American education is sorely lacking.

I think smarter in general but dumbing themselves down ... and do not think for themselves....not all tho
plungesponge · 41-45, M
lol.... people have become like the computers they depend so much on. Super fast, super powerful, but ultimately idiotic on their own.

SW-User
@plungesponge the computer has no feelings, nor emotions, it has inputs ... it only gives back what the creator (pun) puts in
plungesponge · 41-45, M
lol exactly. How many people do you know who just react to stimulus rather than proactively doing something about it.
Xena1234 · 51-55, F
I think most schools are dumbing people down.
WarmAtNight · M
@Xena1234 ok...
