Lino type operator. My dad's occupation. Back in the day before computerised printing for magazines and newspapers.

Jobs associated with paper making. Factory in my hometown made all that Basildon Bond stationary you used to see and use everywhere !

Axeroberts · 56-60, M
@rckt148 tv and appliace repairman certainly exist. and so do assembly lines
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@Axeroberts yea but not like back in the day ,robots build so much now
and repairmen are not in demand either ,things are so cheap built
even a simple heater you need to be an electronics tech not a repairman
I can fix almost anything ,rewind motors ,build engines ,fabricate ,
do custom diesels ,and repair most problems with a TV too ,build computers and laptops ,but there is no where near the service places there used to be
I turned our local TV repair shop into a pawn shop ,not enough money for him to need a big building ,he works at home in his garage ,does more satellite TV ,then TV repair
I have an AC just needed a starter condenser ,I had to order one on-line
Commercial AC men around but no one had parts for a window unit or a portable ,
We have 2 appliance repairmen in a decent size city ,but they have very few parts ,why buy a timer for a washer for $125.00 when you can buy a nicer machine for $75.00 thats all I am saying ,its not like in the day
And no auto plant has people on it ,bottling lines ,processing plants ,they even have a robot that can make Pizza now ,,Robot surgery
Even the coal mines ,its done with machines now ,they need men who can run a machine now ,not swing a pick ax
and we want more tech ,,we have not learned out lesson yet

The guys on the back of garbage trucks to pick up trash cans. Now they have the arms on truck to do it. At least here in Australia they do.
Valerian · 100+, M
@MissMollyCharlotte0702 Nope, they come on 2 trucks, 1 for garbage and 1 for recyclables and bio yard waste.
2 guys+ driver per truck.

Last contractor had the cool robot lift arms.
Paper boys. Do they still exist?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@MissMollyCharlotte0702 they do but they don't carry the numbers they traditionally did.
Many more places for folk to get their news from these days ! And it's updated instantly ! So newspapers are fast becoming obsolete
Yes...and it's probably a good thing as newspapers really aren't good for he environment. All that black ink.@Picklebobble2
