Women need guy friends so they (the women) can tell their guy friends how much they love their bf who treats them (the women) like crap. The women want their guy friends to tell them "it'll be OK", "he really loves you", "keep going back to him and he'll CHANGE and will treat to right!"... Things like that.
Well at least that was MY experience as a long-time resident of the Friend Zone (not anymore...)
