Why are there no official friendship breakups like in relationships?

At least I'd know if I was bothering someone or if it's okay to message them every once in a while. How do people know they aren't friends with someone anymore?

In this new era of instantaneous wireless communication, perhaps there should be an official breakup. "Back in my day", people simply drifted apart, stopped stopping over and/or meeting at the old hangouts.
