When Hardees was still here it was them. Hand-breaded and fried in skillets and tasted like homemade. Nothing else has ever compared. I hated it when they went out and Carls Jr. replaced them. And Hardees headquarters was here in my city back then. Carls don’t compare to Hardees. Their strawberry shakes taste artificial, Hardees was the real deal.

@NativePortlander1970 Hardee’s was where the blue collar people ate. I saw 4 men wearing silk suits sitting in a booth and sat down in the next one. It was on the side next to the kitchen leading to bathrooms and usually workers took their breaks. The reason I sat there was because in the other booths my daughter who was about two years old would turn around and stare at people while they were eating. Those booths backed up to each other. Anyway I thought why are men dressed that way here? Was thinking they were from corporate but still overdressed. One of the men looked at me and looked at the two across from him and made a sign for them to dummy up. So they sat there silently. I was suspicious and would talk to my daughter asking if the French fries were good etc while listening with my ears to them. They were using few words kind of talking in code. One of them said to one that he needed to complete another assignment. There was silence for about a minute and that one relied “I really want to get out.” They stared at him a few minutes and then one said “ You have till Monday to complete another assignment. I kept talking to my daughter but was scared because I figured it was about drug trafficking. Then they all got up to
Leave and one of them was a neighbor whoLived 3 houses down the rural road. He was a banker here. Drug trafficking and money laundering. I didn’t tell anyone for
Months till one night there was a tv show on with an almost identical conversation. They were drug traffickers talking about trafficking cocaine. I told my husband Some guys in silk suits had almost same conversation and when they walked out I was tempted to go see what kind of vehicles they were driving but was scared they would see me so I didn’t. You should have seen the look on his face. I didn’t tell himOur neighbor was the one they were talking to. But it came out a year later after his wife divorced him and told him at the convenience store across the street. She laughed and said she got to keep the home, the acreage, the horses, the children and he was paying child support and alimony. She also said he’d took flight lesson here and bought a plane and had been flying to Columbia every weekend.

@NativePortlander1970 and oh yeah it came out in local
News he wanted to open a water park as an investment at the lake but the state wouldn’t allow it. So
he invested money with a local builder because it was early 80’s and there was a construction boom building homes and apartments. The builders built so many apartments and homes that the rent dropped for about 5 years. All
that oil-boom era cocaine money profits laundering money had to be laundered an invested.
