I agree totally, let them be kids and play with them

That's lovely to hear! I love that.
I've only had daughters, myself, and when I was a child I had no real interest in dolls or anything like that - pretty much kicking a ball, reading a book, listening to music or going to the cinema - and my eldest used to love dolls so I'd sit down with her and play with them with her.
Out of my comfort zone? Not really. Out of my frame of reference? Probably. But I learned to enjoy it. A new skill, a new frame of reference.

Amen brother, that's what kids really want, just to spend time with them doing things they enjoy doing. You will never regret a moment you spent with your kids , but you will regret the moments you didn't.
I was raised in a broken home and my father was seldom around. I always told myself when I have kids I going to be a better father to mine than my father was to me. Unfortunately my marriage didn't work out either but I was always there for my daughter. I went on all her school field trips with her and I used to work four ten hour days and had every Friday off and I would go have lunch with her at school every Friday.
I have been a major influence on several other young peoples lives as well over the years. Nieces , nephews, kids of single parents and a daughter of a special forces service member who is a close friend. Kids can need positive male influences in their lives.

I spent plenty of time playing with dolls with my daughter.
I am sure your daughter will look back on what you are doing now and appreciate it.
