I think you're being too soft

@Jackaloftheazuresand No we didn't but I wasn't originally going to be involved and later decided to step up and we worked it out. So for that reason maybe my girlfriend feels like the boss and I'm not sure what I can do to assert my authority without causing problems between us, which o don't want to do.

@Guitarist35 Here's the thing, you are in an imperfect situation which means you don't have wiggle room. Most of your decisions are going to involve a sacrifice. I assume that it is your conviction to continue to guide your child as you see proper, unfortunately for you the price of that is you will create a rift with your girlfriend. It is unavoidable. By some miracle she may back down and let you have your way but you can't count on that so just accept that you will get on her bad side.

@Jackaloftheazuresand Or I just let her have her way 😁

You are exactly right. You can tell her that patience is a taught skill and those toddlers who learn patience have happier lives. Tantrums should be ignored, and they will go away. Giving in or giving kids a lot of attention when they have bad behaviors will increase the tantrums next time. Kids who get their way because of tantrums will be immature adults one day with anger management problems and depression. Giving rewards and praising good behaviors will teach children to be good. Patience is a taught skill. Toddlers who get things by whining are more depressed as teens.
No I don’t think so. It’s what they call the “terrible twos and threes”. With your guidance and time, he’ll come around.

I think you're going to have to work on disciplining the girlfriend first
