I suggest you let her try it out.

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Look at the positives.
It's social
Interaction with both peers and adults
It requires co-ordination; memory; timing; fitness; strength all of which will improve as she does it.

I feel some shame in fanning the flames of paranoia, but with all the shit that's come out over the years about what happens to children in churches, Hollywood, gymnastics teams, etc., I don't think I'd let my hypothetical-daughter within a hundred miles of a closed off environment under the control of a fellow-responsible-adult.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@Keraunos the good news is that here it’s totally open and tons of parents watching too ( sadly the weirdos were in the most trusted highest positions— I hear you)
ZeroFox · 36-40, M
I don't know anything about cheer leading, but I used to teach guitar and the absolute worst was when I had a student who was being forced by his/her parents to be there.

If your daughter has an activity that she genuinely loves doing you should let her do it because other wise she might be sitting on the couch with her iPad
Mindful · 56-60, F
@ZeroFox thanks for pointing out the importance of genuine

Cheerleader isn't a career
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SW-User I suppose that’s why I think 2 hours is too much
SW-User
Yeah my daughter did 2 hour twirling classes at ages 6,7,8,9, then she quit for another sport
She was happy to go and enjoyed it
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SW-User lol thank you. I’m relieved? But she’s interested in competing. I always hoped she would prefer swim. But her dads new wife likes cheer
SW-User
@Mindful there's no harm and it keeps them out of mischief 😊
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SW-User thank you!!!! It is positive ...and she has years to grow!!! Into a variety of interests
SW-User
When you get negtive reports from school take an interest. Shes keeping fit n healthy, much better than 2hrs of mario cart!
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SW-User yes! I like that perspective— better than 2 hours of video games (she’s not a gaming addict)
SW-User
@Mindful she's interacting with the world, let her do it, enable her, that's your job as a parent. Imo.
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
she has plenty of time to worry about careers later. for now its just a hobby/activity. let her have fun.
Dewkissedrose · 46-50, F
Is it a competition team?
Mindful · 56-60, F
@Dewkissedrose no, the girls will cheer for a football team
