How long do you think the states that haven't legalized weed have ?

It's becoming so much more popular
ImJack · M
Not long - the tax revenue and freeing up of police resources is a compelling reason.

What staggers me is that in the UK we have still not legalised cannabis, despite most senior police commanders, in the UK, calling for legalisation of weed.

I think the pharma companies are lobbying politicians against it.

@SooperSarah ik plenty Of people in legal states who buy from dispensary now that it's legal. They had no issues switching.
ImJack · M
@SooperSarah Long term users are not the new users. It was same when prohibition ended, some still liked their hooch and moonshine, but most went legal. And in 2021 who goes to their local black market supplier for drink?
@ImJack
Remember alcohol used to be illegal as well,
That was an oddity; it was legal, then made illegal, nationally, then made legal again. The effect of the prohibition was to get women drinking.

From BBC News today

Uber is making its first foray into the marijuana market, as Uber Eats users in Ontario, Canada will soon be able to order cannabis products on the app.

Customers will be able to place orders in a dedicated section of the app for cannabis retailer Tokyo Smoke and then pick them up at a nearby store.

The firm refused to be drawn on whether it will roll out the offering further across Canada and the US.

Canada's marijuana market is worth around CAD$5bn (£3bn; $4bn) a year.

Uber Eats users will have to verify their age on the app and then will be able to pick up their orders within an hour, the company said.

Under Canadian law, although marijuana use has been legal since 2018, it is still illegal to deliver it.

Uber has had its sights set on the booming cannabis market for some time now.

In April, chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi said the company will consider delivering cannabis once it is permitted under US law.

Illegal producers
Despite the sale of cannabis for recreational use becoming legal in Canada three years ago, illegal producers still control a large share of sales. This is something the government has been trying to remedy.

Uber said that its partnership with Tokyo Smoke will help adults in the country buy safe, legal cannabis, combatting illegal sellers.

More likely it will be illegal everywhere again when Trump or someone very much like Trump takes over in 2024. Smoking pot does not contribute to getting up every morning and going to a job you hate that doesn't pay a livable wage so some rich people can get richer.
Rosiechick13 · 26-30, F
@hunkalove um it does if you want to buy the weed..... Most Republicans are for it lol.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
there may be a conservative state or two that will be a hold out.

it's like the lottery though. there's too much money in it NOT to make it legal and tax it like booze or alcohol.

I'm just surprised that prostitution isnt legal in more places.
I think it won't be long. Even in my state (very red state), you can buy small amounts of THC in gas stations.
Rosiechick13 · 26-30, F
@Anonymused I can buy 3.5 or lower here
Rosiechick13 · 26-30, F
Or drive a state over for a weekend lol
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
not until they have the legislature in place to tax the shit out of it...
It's surprising that there has been so much interest in it, but I also don't see the appeal of drinking a substance which is trying to shut down your CNS.
Rosiechick13 · 26-30, F
@SomeMichGuy I mean I like a beer and I also like the relaxing feeling of a hit or 2 🤷 I'd rather smoke than drink though. I don't do stupid stuff when I smoke
@Rosiechick13 So your interest is not medicinal, but recreational?

This state? Never on its own. It will come from the feds. Biden hates the idea and Harris has a prosecutor's mentality. So it will be a long time. Neither party will push for legal weed.
Rosiechick13 · 26-30, F
@Crazywaterspring my states got it up for argument this year
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@Rosiechick13 Great! This state can't keep power on in the winter, audits election results even though trump won here and stacks up shipping containers on the border with Mexico.

I just hope they decriminalize addiction and put them in treatment centers instead of jail
Rosiechick13 · 26-30, F
@Pretzel The issue is lots of addicts deal it .... And heroin dealers need to be in prison. They supply that shit and kill people.... So it's a word line
