We lived on $400. a month when we had twin toddlers.
I grew up pretty poor. My dad was a coal miner, so there were times of unemployment when he was laid off or on strike.

As adult we had lean times as well, especially in the early years. I remember crying in the grocery store when I was pregnant because I couldn’t afford the fresh veggies that I was craving.

In college, at the end of the month scrounging for food....checked the pantry and found a can of Franco-American beef gravy and a half box of stale Cherrio's...yeah I did. 😜

After my dad split, my mom worked two jobs, and we were still barely able to get by and relied on food stamps sometimes to eat.

When I came into this world I had nothing . When I leave I probably will have nothing . In the middle has been a lot of ups and downs. I have managed to keep a roof over my head and food on the table ( maybe not exactly steak and caviar but food) so I have been very fortunate for that .

I don't think so I have ever been poor. Is not having enough to buy cloths and shoes for two and half years count as being poor?. I would be ashamed to claim that but that was the lowest during student life.

Worked two jobs for the longest time. Still couldn't make ends meet. My groceries list every week consist of, oats, bread, eggs and 2 lbs of ground beef.
Had to borrow mortgage money a few times. Thought we would lose our home around 15 years ago..
