How many chromosomes does a turtle have??
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@donatello Sternotherus or Staurotypus?

And the creationist explanation would be "look how awesome God is, how he made our chromosomes do that."

The problem with the goddidit "theory" is that it predicts nothing.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@LeopoldBloom and it explains nothing... it tries to merely explain everything away.
@newjaninev2 Goddidit is a semantic stopsign - not an answer, but a signal to end further questioning.

And the child asked:

Q: Where did this rock come from?

A: I chipped it off the big boulder, at the center of the village.

Q: Where did the boulder come from?

A: It probably rolled off the huge mountain that towers over our village.

Q: Where did the mountain come from?

A: The same place as all stone: it is the bones of Ymir, the primordial giant.

Q: Where did the primordial giant, Ymir, come from?

A: From the great abyss, Ginnungagap.

Q: Where did the great abyss, Ginnungagap, come from?

A: Never ask that question.

The way I see it evolution is the organic equivalent of an update system, but it's extremely slow and not always working because it requires a catalyst, the ultimate response of an adaptive species to the ever-changing environment. We could be witnessing evolution in progress right now. For example more and more people now have a total lack of 3rd molars or the so called wisdom teeth, since the human cranium has been developing in favor of cerebral space and devolving in the facial and maxillary-mandibular section, and thus having 3rd molars is often a hindrance and have to be removed most commonly. Next thing that might happen is the lack of any pigment, since in modern times we can control the weather in our immediate surroundings.

Facinating, I never know that we were the only ones with 23 and all the apes had 24.
