Forgive my ignorance but is there such a thing called Irish curry chips in Ireland? Or was it a made up dish in other countries? It doesn’t taste like curry, the way I know it though.

Well we would just call it "curry chips", and they're very popular from chinese restaurants here. So popular that fish & chip shops, and pizza places will often sell a version too.

What they call "Irish curry" in some parts of the UK is a curry sauce based on the ones that originally Chinese restaurants made in Ireland.

The brand McDonnells sells a powdered version of what they're usually recreating here in Ireland.

Every respectful UK chip shop will have a choice of curry sauce.
Irish is a favourite, usually a little spicier than their homemade, which is rarely actually home made.
My local chippy has three options, homemade, Irish and Madras.

Yes. Curry sauce is a popular option with chips in the UK and Ireland. It's both sweet and savory. Barely spicy tho
