We can laugh but as with 99% of Father Ted, it illustrates the facade of Catholic life ideal (as ingrained from early life in church) and what happens but is never spoken of.

Violence in marriage. Rape in marriage. Child abuse in families and church settings. Alcoholism; and just about every human foible.

I think I've seen every episode - many, many laughs in there.
