When my girlis were young we babysat alittle black boy. Little kids know nothing of racism, everyone got along just fine. John turned out just fine, went to law school and has been in practice for 25 years. We are still great friends.

@jackson55 When I was raising my kids, I not only taught them about our own culture but also about other cultures. I wanted my girls to know that our race wasn't the only ones discriminated against.

It goes to show how the light vs. dark mentality survived long after slavery ended. My grandma has always been the same way with my cousin who has light skin.

Yes. Intrarracial discrimination and internalized racism are the sociological terms, I believe. The reason my paternal grandmother expressed disappointment that I as the first grandchild didn’t get her (or Pop’s) green eyes. The reason we still speak in terms of “good hair” or “keen features”. An ugly light-skinned person is “good yellow gone to waste”. And many still say these things without even thinking about the broader implications.
