That's an excellent idea. All countries should do that, it would avoid shipping parts and materials around the world and it would create jobs.

No touch screens, no self-driving.
I had a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria. from Canada best car I ever owned

We are too small of a market. We would be better off allowing advanced inexpensive electric cars from elsewhere. The existing auto industry is pretty small and only in one province. We would be better off saying bye to the big three automakers and welcoming BYD or others.

Canuck mobile I can dig it
Totally going to be expensive 🫰
EarthGirl · 18-21, F
@sstronaut Not necessarily. Borrow from the past, basically same model every year.
@EarthGirl That includes common sense, and most governments don't use that...

Most governments are making requirements of new safety features which demands new, more expensive materials and technology, which limits them from borrowing from the past, as past models would not be legal if they were built today.

That or people wouldn't by the vehicles with their worse MPG.

I mean, I absolutely love the idea, I just don't see them able to reasonable pull it off.

MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
I think the whole world would benefit from cheaper cars, who needs fancy doodads
but canada likes to insist on fancy doodads; make them requirements.
EarthGirl · 18-21, F
@dirge A good electronics free car is possible to make.
@EarthGirl I dunno; people get addicted to selling privacy data and sometimes governments even make it a requirement.
