I do give sweets to trick or treaters if they come but for me Oct 31st is Reformation Day!

@BritishFailedAesthetic Glad I posted something this year that you felt agreement with.

@BritishFailedAesthetic Good to know. Just don't bite my hand off at times. I had only two originally! :)

I think that such holidays to religious extremism are best left in the past. This conveniently leaves out how the Reformation led to centuries of bloodshed and carnage not surpassed until the no man's land of WW1.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Wow! Never heard of the Counter-Reformation then? Nor the Council of Trent, the Inquisition, the Jezuiet order, the Holy League, the Sack of Magdeburg or the Saint Bartholomew’s Day massacre? Roman Catholics—largely through the military actions of the Habsburg empires, Spanish forces, and imperial armies in the Eighty Years' War, the French Wars of Religion, and the Thirty Years' War—actually inflicted a higher total death toll than Protestants did during the entire era of the European wars of religion.

@val70 🤣. You are literally blaming the nominally Catholic ruling class of the day for wars started by the Reformation extremists. The 80 years war literally happened because of the Reformation. Ditto with the 30 years war.
That is what happens when you declare war against the current ruling class because you have decided they are the forces of "evil" because they disagree with you over a book.
But you are just proving my point that clearly religious extremism is still alive and well in the protestant spaces.
And you can play games about who inflicted casualties but the reality is if the Reformation had not happened literally none of those wars would have happened.
Just because one side has an overwhelming military advantage to start with doesn't magically make them the aggressor.
And I see you were very very deliberate to only mention massacres and atrocities on one side. Which is very convenient.

@val70 The low estimate on how many people were killed during the Reformation Wars is 7 million. The high estimate is 17 million.
Numbers that would not be seen again till WW1.
