We have those here. They are brown thrashers. I caught one that came into a girl’s dorm room during move-out when they had the doors propped open. She was scared of birds and asked me to get it out for her. After I released the bird it just stood there and looked at me instead of flying off. They are really beautiful birds when you see them up close. Also had one around here that would come visit one of my female parakeets on the deck when she was singing each day in the summer. These birds are related to mockingbirds.
