The disciples learnt so much from Jesus Christ and they followed him till they sacrificed their lives. One can do so Only to Protect 'A truth' larger than the whole HUMANITY. And they did so after Jesus was raised. Had it not been true, They would have easily been dispersed and would not have been associated with The Mission. The very fact that they took the mission shows their sincerity to an extraordinary level.
Presently, There is an undercurrent in many countries including China and people in China are accepting Jesus Christ as their savior like never before in the history, according to some recent surveys. If it is true, it is quite amazing.
Lord Jesus Christ surely is The Only Way and The Only Truth and The Only Life.

The disciples followed Jesus out of their great love for Him, not duty. They were more faithful than any in the world, I believe. Sacrificing their own lives. I hope you're right about so many turning to Christ in China. That truly would be amazing.
