Newport v Bridgend
by FURRYANIMAL2 on October 28, 2016

Ctrl/Cmd+V29 October 2016

Newport at home to Bridgend on a Saturday afternoon with a 2:30 kick-off! Sounds good! Matches between these sides are always high scoring with both teams looking to play high tempo rugby and move the ball at every opportunity. Last season the Black & Ambers did the double on the Ravens but there will be no complacency shown as a victory is important to both sides. After two wins in the Foster’s Challenge Cup Newport should feel confident but league rugby is different and the coaches know that this could be a tough encounter. If the Black & Ambers are going to get their campaign back on track then it must start with this game.

John Lavender is back in the front row after a couple of outstanding performances in the BIC competition. Captain Adam Brown also put in a couple of good shifts and takes his place in the boiler room. The coaching team had some tough decisions to make when picking the back row but Reuben Tucker, Craig Attwell and Rhys Jenkins get the nod. Rhys showed in last Wednesday’s game that he is on top form.

The starting half-backs are Owen Davies and Matt O’Brien with Ryan James and Arwel Robson set to make an impact off the bench. After a superb performance last Wednesday Chay Smith plays at centre alongside Tom Riley. The returning Jon Morris joins Wes Cunnliffe and Llywarch Ap Myrrdin in the back three.

Newport: John Lavender, Henry Palmer, Tom Piper, Dan Mock, Adam Brown @, Rhys Jenkins, Craig Attwell, Reuben Tucker, Owen Davies, Matt O’Brien, Jon Morris, C. Smith Tom Riley, Wes Cunliffe, Llywarch App Myrddin.

Replacements: Evan Whitson, James Greenfield, Chris Coleman, Henri Williams, Kyle Tayler Ryan James, Arwel Robson, Geraint O’Driscoll.

Ref: Graham Wells, Scottish Rugby Union

I agree there and I hope my local team Hull Kingston rovers can bounce back into the super league at the first attempt
