I Love to Watch and Feed the Birds

Today I saw hummingbirds and orioles the first time this year. They went to some of the old feeders throughout the yard and some of the new on the windows. I'm happy to see that a new style of window feeder isn't going to stop them from being so close where I have an excellent view! They're some of my favorite birds because their return means that winter, my least favorite season, is over. Bring on Summer!

@SomeMichGuy My uncle has the most amazing photos of them in flight. When I was a little girl I'd climb this Mimosa tree back home (the hummingbirds love them) and if you'd sit perfectly still they'd surround you eating the nectar from the flowers. All you could hear were the sound of their tiny wings fluttering, it was amazing!!! It was like a soft humming sound.😌🕊

@Peaches making your own is the best, that way you know it is pure.
@Peaches WOW...what an amazing experience THAT had to be!
Incredible little creatures, hummingbirds. Often mistaken for an insect.
The window feeders with its privacy screen are so neat.

In winter, Chickadees will return if you maintain food, and very comfortably land on your hand to eat. An incredible experience.

@SethGreene531 you know in the old Saturday morning cartoons from the 50s, they painted mosquitoes stinging as bugs with hummingbird beaks which divebombed people.
@SW-User Yes, they did.
The hummingbird has very similar movements, sudden darting and hovering with precision.
In my youth, I'd spot what appeared to be a large flying insect at dusk. After planting rose of sharon bushes, they came back -- i realized what I'd seen.
They will come near, if you stand VERY still, near flowers.
A Youtube video even shows hand feeding.
hummingbirds are both beautiful and funny (with their darting way of flitting near flowers) but fast as heck when they boogy away

I love them! Putting out oranges and jelly for the Orioles. ❤

@SW-User I've just returned online from cleaning and refilling feeders. Lol, good timing. The ones in my yard which hold sugar water feed both Orioles and hummingbirds. I've found that the combination of certain Oriole feeder bottoms and hummingbird tops are the easiest for me to clean.
