Which political part in the usa would be more wiling to lower the drinking age to 18 ?

texasmentor54 · 70-79, M
It was 18 until 1986 in both Texas and Louisiana until they passed the Federal law in 1986. You have MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) to thank for that. Not sure how much it helped, if any. I know it really hurt the bar business. The reason it would be bad to lower it is statistical...statistically, a LOT more 18 to 21 year old got into fatal drunk driving accidents than any other age group.

@texasmentor54 good info there

The Democratic Party, probably, because Democrats are less prone to fear and more prone to empathy. Not for any ideological reason.

None of them. They just raised the age of smoking cigarettes.

I don't think any state will because the Federal government would withhold 10% of the highway funding to any state with a drinking aget under 21.

Dems because the republicans have weird religious deals with alcohol.

Realistically neither one is in a huge hurry to change the drinking age

I remember, for years the drinking age in Florida was 18, they changed it to 21 in the mid 70’s.

I would guess liberals, NY is crawling with them and night clubs are big business.

Anyone that wants less gov! I think we need more government to help us out!

It used to be that a little more than 30 years ago in Texas

Possibly the libertarian party

It’s not a popular idea on either side.
