I agree, relationships have their ups and downs, but being in a wrong one because you can't bare being lonely is even worse.
They're not all they're cracked up to be, and no relationship is perfect.
It is better to have friends that date in my opinion, but sometimes it seems like sex and stuff like that is the be all or end all for some.

A purely sexual relationship works best for me.
