"Runaway" – Del Shannon

Sixty years ago today, Del Shannon's "Runaway" started a 4-week run at #1 on the US singles chart.
It was an international hit as well and made it to #1 in at least five other countries. In the UK, it was the biggest-selling single of 1961.
Shannon has been honored by induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1999) and the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame (2005). But I wonder why...why why why why why his signature song (covered by more than 200 artists) hasn't yet been included in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.
Based on the Registry's stated criteria for listing sound recordings, "Runaway" would seem to be a good candidate for inclusion. Maybe they'll get around to it someday.
