I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

If you believe all lives matter, then you believe black lives matter.

I was introduced to that phrase by someone yelling it from a television in another room. When I watched, it was from a black woman telling a white woman to "get away. We don't want white peoples help." I had a slight push back myself, then regrouped because of knowing the situation and why the phrase came into place. Knowing white people cling to being in control and love to overreact astounds me. The instant self gratification, at least in America, supersedes everything and we love to blame and complain. This subject matter seems to continuously show up. Gays, blacks, women, orientals, latinos, not saying the pledge of allegiance, jews and many others are shunned. We are the only creatures claiming to be civilized but act like territorial animals, always needing possessions.
@openwater ditto.
@MarineBob All crappies matter, too 🥰

Good point.
Yeah, but folks weren’t widely saying “all lives matter” until the black lives matter motto came into usage, and generally as a dismissal. Because they don’t believe black people’s lives matter.

It’s kind of like trying to stop someone from burning your house down and being told “All houses matter”. Useless and largely irrelevant.
@bijouxbroussard I don't know how many people fall under the category you mentioned, but I was part of a Facebook post related to Black Lives Matter a couple of years ago. People said that they believed that "Black Lives Matter" meant, "ONLY Black Lives Matter". And anyone who would hear this interpretation of it first, would usually believe it to be the case, as well. It was a huge argument on that post. So I looked up the official Black Lives Matter website and posted a line that said something along the lines of: "We believe all lives are equal. It is time that black lives begin to be treated with that equality". When I posted that statement, they felt too embarrassed to reply, presumably since it was proof that they were wrong about their interpretation of the movement.

I'm not going to deny that the category you wrote about doesn't exist. I have no proof of that. But I do believe that it may run a little deeper, too. I feel this can simply be a misunderstanding to people, but due to the fact that there really isn't ever a civil and rational discussion about the topic, everyone's talking points are just thrown over one another's heads. They aren't talking to unify, come to common ground, or to learn from one another. They're only talking to win. And that's a dangerous path to walk.
@LookingForSomethingNew Yes, I remember some choosing to think that. I used to say that with one word, this all would’ve been moot: “Black Lives Matter, Too“.
@bijouxbroussard I cannot like your comment enough lmao. I've always said the same.
