Cats kill birds as a last resort, when they've been hunting all night and haven't caught any prey. They don't torture them. They do chase mice around before they kill them to force them to breath through their mouth so the mouse won't bite them when they kill them. In nature, one bite is likely to become an abscess and can kill a cat.
I do understand about birds, though and I used to scold my car when he went near them.

I just hate how they kill animals just for fun. I may be wrong but I hear they hurt and torture their prey. And because I love birds, this pains me.

What are HAES? And why dislike someone unhealthy? Bi- polar is not healthy either. (I'm old-- bad health is normal for us old folks).

HAES basically says that anyone, regardless of weight, is healthy. Believe me, I do NOT look down on the unhealthy. I'm pretty screwed up myself.
