I Want People to Share Their Poetry

Tonight I will drive out to the oceanfront
and go to the sand and walk about a bit
I am hungry
I am tired
I will think of it as wasting time
but I will do it
walk alone on the sand
I will have no hand to hold
I will have no windbreaker, though it’s cold
probably colder than my bones like
and I’ll be there far longer than
will make sense to me
to do alone

I will occupy a lifeguard stand
like there’s cuddling to do
I will stare at the stars of the horizon
like they’re someone’s eyes
Likely I will cry

Less than a block from life
and it’s neon lights
and late, late nights
and loves expressed
and distractions for the rest
and rounds of drinks
cheers and glasses clinks
breasts swollen with Love, Hope, Pride
People who must not have to hide
their pain for the greater good

So that’s how I’ll fill out the time
when I’m there a lot longer
a lot longer
than it makes sense
to me
to do alone.
