I Am Not a Feminist

For a couple years, I was such an advocate for feminism. Coming down from that, my views have changed. No, I don’t think at this point in time women have achieved equality (wage gap, representation in positions of power, etc). The playing field is still unequal. I continue to fully support the belief of equality; but that belief no longer coincides with third-wave feminism. What I think is important isn’t what third-wave feminism is working towards. I don’t want my activism to be confined into a box of what I can and cannot believe in. I think abortion is murder but guess what? I’m still pro-choice because my beliefs shouldn’t take away another’s bodily autonomy. I want there to be education on men’s issues just as much as women’s issues. I think toxic masculinity is detrimental but it really, truly isn’t men’s fault for the way they’ve been conditioned to think. Third-wave feminism is entitled, white women parading themselves around with “I hate men” signs and genitalia hats on. That is not a movement I want to be part of. Nobody takes them seriously because they don’t present themselves in a serious and logical manner. Imagine if Susan B. Anthony did any of that. It just isn’t how you get people to understand your cause. There’s no room to be ‘neutral’ in feminism. You either support every insane belief or you’re a sexist republican. It just doesn’t work that way. It’s like feminists try to give the media insane examples of why people don’t want to be a part of that group. Another problem I have with third-wave feminism is how many of them treat transwomen, women of color, and disabled women. The equality I want is intersectional; it doesn’t stop at the lines of race, biological gender, or how able-bodied someone is. I absolutely will not support a movement that can use & then discard those groups as a way to further their own agenda.

I might add to this more later but this is all I can think of right now.

I remember being in the Indiana state legislative body when they were considering the Equal Rights Ammendment in 1972 as a Page. My mom was seriously harassed by many men in the same way our president has acted. You would think by now we wouldn’t have Supreme Court Justices making the cut because everyone isn’t sure whether they should take the word of a very credible professional woman that was assaulted. I agree with most of everything you said except for males being indoctrinated in toxic behavior. All need to be held accountable with how they act including the current president. I am personally disappointed with the pace of equal rights but it is like racism. It gets institutionalized by old white men that ignore common sense civil rights.
Yes I am an older white man.

I agree with a lot of your points, third wave feminism doesn’t have a clear goal like wave one and two had.

So many modern feminists are focused on women’s rights only when I think it’s more important to work towards equality no matter a person’s gender, age, race, age, etc...

And yes I’m so tired of “feminist” using it to hate on men, e.g. women who drink from mugs with “men’s tears” written across the mug but yet still crying about men who insult them over the Internet. Double standards much.
