Why are lobsters boiled alive? Does it affect the taste so badly if you kill them two seconds before throwing them in the pot?

When they die their body release toxins, they have to be kept alive before cooking, there is no reason to boil them alive, some people stab them in the head before boiling them
They have no brain or nervous system so they feel no pain...It's basicly an aquatic insect

@TexChik technically yes,but no capacity for pain . The brain is like a pinhead
TexChikF
@FreeSpirit1 it has response to pain, light , hunger , territoriality , mating , etc . It protects itself from predators

@TexChik marine biologists disagrees with you on the pain part. Lobsters have an incredibly primitive brain and nervous system which is unable to process pain.
I am going to eat them no matter what,. 馃榿

It's clearly not as fun that way

Let the cook enjoy his work mkay

Hey I wasn't joking you really can put a lobster to sleep Google it I used to be a bay man for years and I live on Long Island where Seafood practically walks to your house

I didn't google but I agree they can be but not as quick as throwing them into the water.@Surfcrab]

You can put them in a sleep mode and they won't even know you just fold them over. What else are you going to do shoot them before you throw them in the pot princess?

You didn't have to come all the way back here to heart my reply. You know me I don't complain

Just to add to your humane thinking why worry about the boiling ones more than the ones that die in captivity at lobster pounds, being shipped all over or in the tank in your local store . Oops sorry lobster fishermen.

It lowers the risk of you getting severe food poisoning because of the type of bacteria that thrive in decaying lobster flesh

I would but if I shoot it with rifle I'll have to sign a death notice and send it to the next of kin.

just faster, more efficient

I wanna be boiled alive

It has to do with a toxin in their body that is released if you cook them differently
