I Consider My Pets Family

This is Olive. She's a smooth death feigning beetle, Asbolus laevis. She's a free thinker, a diva, and very demanding. A lot of people think that insects can't have personalities or be individuals, but I'm here to tell you, from my experience, that's 100% not true. She's a wonderful little companion, and I'm very glad I ended up with her.

And yes, she has a tiny picket fence in her house.

She must be relieved not to have to go around smoothly feigning death day in and day out.

I think she's trying to figure out the force field.

@Lostpoet She likes to follow the sun. As soon as I turn off her heat lamp at the end of the day, she's pawing at the glass again. Little sun worshipper.

@BigAssLeech Well, she is as cute as a bug.
The blue ones are pretty.

Surprising to learn they can live for eight years! I had no idea insects could live so long.

THEN I learn the queen termite is known to live for 50 years and suspected of living 100. I should take them more seriously.@BigAssLeech

@Mamapolo2016 And think of all the ones we have yet to discover. There's so much diversity among arthropods, especially insects and arachnids. They're easily some of the most fascinating animals. I wish people would get over the fear factor though, and open their minds to see how cool it all really is.
I don’t especially want to pet a bug but they are very interesting. And often amusing.@BigAssLeech

@NickiHijab My messenger account logged me out and I forgot my login, so I made a new account. I tried to tell Sibe but I've heard nothing back from him, so...

@BigAssLeech what's your new account? And he probably just hasn't seen it yet. I just told him just in case
