He threatens those who burn the American flag with jail or loss of citizenship 👍👍

It's not goI guess anywhere, because it's a bad idea.

For starters, he cannot create laws. That's for Congress, and both the Senate Majority and Minority leaders, said today, that they do not support it.

McConnell also said that it would be unconstitutional to do something like this.

The issue is freedom of speech, and in 1969, the Supreme Court ruled that it's protected speech. Even Scalia voted for the ruling.

Why? Because it's a slippery slope. Define desecrating the flag? Is wearing a flag thong, desecrating the flag?

Is using a flag beach towel, desecrating it?

Will we be like Pakistan, trying to decide what desecrating the Qur'an means?

It's really scary that we're going to have a president, who does not understand what separation of powers means, and cannot think about the first amendment, and slippery slope implications.

There's a reason why the Supteme Court, ruled on it, the way it did, in 1969.

Next, someone is going to say that this is political correctness crap....

I know he cannot modify the constitution. He was expressing his desire, in hope to stir the public opinion and that congressmen and senators get the message.

@Cierzo: This is not about modifying the Constitution. It's about interpreting it.

Some states, attempted, in 1968 to pass laws, banning burning the flag. This was an issue, because flags were burned, to protest the Vietnam war, a war that President Elect Trump, avoided because his family had money, and he got multiple deferments while in college, for a mysterious foot ailment, that disappeared, when he was no longer eligible for the draft.

But, I digress. The Supreme Court, in 1969, ruled that burning the flag, is protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution.

The message was from Congress to the President Elect: you do not legislate, we do. It's something Trump needs to get used to. We have three branches of the Government, not a dictatorship. The President needs to think about the ramifications of what he says.

Good. I've gotten tired of people burning the flag.

Can you guess how many people were in jails if the same law would existed in our country? 😂 I think the only in freedom would be the king...and because he's pay for that. 😂

I wish we had such a law. I feel not respected when someone does it. The flag is the symbol of the country, and the people are the country too.

@Cierzo: I understand you. It's very offensive. Anyway I doubt most of people know what they are doing when they burn a flag. I'm not very fan of increasing laws. I think what we are asking for badly, it's education.

I say,now that the people have elected him why not wait and see what Donald Trump can do for America.

The electoral college elected him. The people elected Hillary Clinton. That's how the constitution works. He cannot pick and choose what parts of the constitution to apply, and burning the flag is a constitutionally protected act.

And try to overcome them. He cannot change the constitution himself, but can impulse a movement for a flag desecration amendment.
@Cierzo: GOOD LUCK WITH THAT...

“the right of free speech shall not be abridged, and it is addressed in particular to speech critical of the government. That was the kind of speech that tyrants would seek to repress… Burning the flag is a form of expression of speech. Burning a flag is a symbol that expresses an idea.” .....Justice Antonin Scalia 2012

In 1989, in Texas v. Johnson, the Justices invalidated prohibitions on desecrating the American flag enforced in 48 of the 50 states.

In 1967, in Afroyim v. Rusk the court ruled that the Constitution does not allow the government to expatriate Americans against their will.

Showing once again that what TRUMP knows about our law history is fairly equal to that which the last turd you dropped knows...

However, the boy is great at throwing stuff that divides us out there. Make no mistake, that is his goal.
