@rckt148 My parents both came from Southern families where the switch was used. You're a southerner, so you probably know what that's about, lol. They didn't use that on us, but I remember my maternal grandmaman, who was a very tall (5'11'') stern and imposing figure, with the gentlest voice and manner one on one. She once confided that after switching any of her 10 children, she would leave their room, go into her room and cry. She said she always prayed that they understood she was doing it for their own good. But all of her children (including my mother) grew up to make her proud.

@bijouxbroussard I sit all mine down ,we talked about what they had done ,sometimes when I could see what they done was punishment enough ,,I said "well today is Grace and Mercy day" but like our Lord ,its not to be abused
Today you don't get what we both know you deserve
But if they had been warned or it was not the first offense,after the talk they got across my knee and took 5 to 10 whacks depending on the offense ,it was through jeans and underclothing and only on the rear ,never anywhere else ,,unless they did not comply ,then it was where ever I could hit ,,,but cry like a baby when they left
Sometimes I had to go to my car and cry it out myself ,no one likes hurting their child they love ,,its to make them remember ,there are consequences for your actions and Dad never makes threats ,,ever
Now they have their own kids making us so proud ,and not one of them 20 ,19 or 38,40,42 ever disrespect me ever
my 20yr old granddaughter had tried ,but a week of Papaw shunning them ,,,neither one of us sleep ,we are a very close family and people always say they are amazed ,our kid are something to be proud of ,,
But I was beat ,,trust me ,,I know the difference from discipline and abuse ,,my kids will tell you
Out Dad loves us unconditionally ,he has never abused any of us ,,,but He don't play ,,if he says it ,,take it to the bank
