I don't like him either, but do think he has a good chance. He plays with people's fears and that is often much stronger than logic.

@Vsonme We already have an actual buffoon in the White House. Trump has a record of substantial accomplishment. You apparently fail to recognize that. Certainly more than anyone else running for the office in my lifetime. Now who is the buffoon?
xladixdisillusionedx · 31-35, F
At the end of the day he reminds me of Hitler. He may never have the same pull but he does bring out the fear and hate in people who adore him. I've been watching this race and neither of the main candidates will get my vote.
firefall · 61-69, M
Yes, you have to have an ID -that-you-have-to-pay-for- and that is not widely and easily accessible if you live in an area heavily populated by minorities: a $40 fee plus having to skip a days work and pay for 4 bus trips (2 each way) adds up to a huge damn barrier if you're on anything like minimum wage.
That's voter suppression, as opposed to protecting the election process from the bullshit made-up illegals voting that the Republicans -continually- rant over but can't produce evidence of.
If the Republicans were serious about protecting the process from illegal votes, they'd promulgate free IDs for anyone.

This is still a joke ,right ? It's not really happening ....right ? 🙊🙈
VSonMe · 56-60, M
@firefall. Me too. It would make the world shudder and we'd have to think about the future of democracy if such an obviously unqualified buffoon can become president. That said, Ted Cruz would be an even bigger nightmare - at least Trump has no fixed views on anything because he's too lazy to think beyond puerile soundbites, but Cruz really believes what he says.
VSonMe · 56-60, M
I don't think Trump has a viable chance of winning. He's alienated the majority of independents and a sizeable block of Republicans. He's clearly unqualified. Even though I would prefer Bernie over Hillary, I can't see many Bernie fans not getting behind Hillary when push comes to shove even though it will be with much less enthusiasm.

If the media, the political mainstream, pc culture and liberal society as a whole was not rotten to the core. There would be no need for a candidate like donald trump. debates are painfully stiffled by pc norms. Wast societal issues are even out of bounds from real discussion. An ever shrinking corridor of "legitimate" opinions sqeeze and intimidate people from expressing themselves. The liberal media seems more like a propaganda machine from the ussr. Even the so called people who hate trump, can't even structure an argument with substance pertaining an issue trump has raised concerns over. They just squeek out the same ad-hoc slogans the media has suggested is "reality". Trump might win, not because he is "great" but because the opposite camp is so out of shape that a regime change is very likely.

@carpediem We will miss Obama a lot. He has been a great president and he's hardly a buffoon as he was president of the Harvard Law Review and a professor of constitutional law. His intelligence is not really subject to debate.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@firefall Voter suppression laws? Something I'm missing here? You mean that you need to be a citizen and have an ID? THOSE "suppression" laws? You mean I can't vote in the US if I live in Venezuela and happen to be here on a visit?
carpediem · 61-69, M
Drumpf is some stupid liberal slang used by people who can't think for themselves. But since you asked, I do believe Donald Trump is going to wipe the floor with his Democratic opponent.
firefall · 61-69, M
1 give him a 1:5 chance of winning - either by October Surprise, or if the voter suppression laws are more effective than I thought they would be.
Doomsdaysmores · 41-45, M
LMAO @ voter suppression laws... How many things do we do on a daily basis that require an ID?
carpediem · 61-69, M
@vsonme Nonsense. History will show his foreign policy as inept. And how long are liberals going to blame Bush? Forever? The economy failed over programs enacted in the Clinton years. But, I agree Bush overspent. No... spin it any way you want, Obama has been a feckless leader. Not achieving a 3% growth year in any one of his 8 years makes him the worst economic leader in the history of the country. But you believe what you want.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@vsonme I beg to differ. He ran to be the leader of the country, not an intellectual or professor. He's a failed leader by ANY stretch of the imagination. He's the only president in the history of the country not to achieve a 3% growth rate in any year of his presidency. He's divided the country like never before. His foreign policy is perhaps even worst than Jimmy Carters'. There's no comparison. Intelligence does not equate to leadership.

@carpediem I don't think we will agree as we view Obama through different lenses, but I do think history will be kind to him. his foreign policy has been effective and you can't blame him for the anaemic growth as the Republicans in the House and Senate have consistently failed to take any action to stimulate the economy. the economy has improved despite their best efforts to sabotage it.
VSonMe · 56-60, M
@carpediem I think we must agree to disagree :)

@Vson We agree to disagree. I can accept that. But you may not last long in my Sunday golf group. Our token commie finally couldn't take the ridicule and left in a huff. Our newest leftie is a bit thicker skinned and much more centrist.
VSonMe · 56-60, M
@carpediem Politics and religion! We are supposed to avoid these topics, but i like discussing them. Most of my friends are republican - I'm the token liberal commie in our golf group. I give as good as I get though.
firefall · 61-69, M
@doomsdaysmores: well idk about you, sport, but I need my ID for zero things on a daily basis. But then I'm not a racist shitstain, I can see how you probably have to deal with the police on a daily basis
carpediem · 61-69, M
@Sabrina That was bluster. Can you imagine England trying to "ban" the potential future president of the US? Political season there is as crazy as it is in the US.

It's going to be a dead heat horse race down to the end.

and The Donald is on his best behavior

that's scary
Pretzel · 61-69, M
I didn't think the republicans would make his their candidate - and now he's facing hc - can we have a do-over?
That1TeacherGuy · 31-35, M
I do. Hilary isn't a valid option in my opinion. I don't like either of them but I can see Trump winning
firefall · 61-69, M
@Vsonme: i hope you're accurate & I'm too pessimistic
Sabrina01 · 36-40, F
Didn't England put a ban on Trump or something?
