I love folk music,I was co-founder of my university's Folk Music Club..whichh is much less impressive than it sounds. It was just a few friends who liked to play and sing. Actually I don't play and some are always giving me grief about my voice. But I'm very enthusiastic! Anyway we had just been to another colleges folk music concert and I said,We could do THAT!
One of my friends worked at an electronics firm and got the mics,amps etc at a huge discount. We had to scout for performers who would work for basically gas money. after that it was just a matter of printing flyers and we were set. We debuted on a Friday night,no admittance;cheap date! But what is this folk music? Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport,Scotch-Irish traditional, Bluegrass, El Condor Pasa ? Yes..and we've hardly begun to define it sans Western Culture.
To me anything that is mostly acoustic "goes" which makes Nirvana Unplugged folk......did you know i came up with the idea for Mtv Unplugged? Just kidding!
Anyway I thought I might post some from the less well known category,the WTH file. Did you know I STARTED this SW group? (No you didn't) I lie like a rug!!
That'll drive you to the Purple Kool Aid,eh? Oh well..The last sng has an interesting "back story". Ritter is sort of riffing on that old Irish song..but in reality He met his own Kathleen up in Idaho or Montana. He did drive this rural woman home but his Dodge Dart skidded into a ditch on her property..She got out and lifted the car back onto the drive..he never saw her agaain. Dang!
