Someone will start off with a legitimate whine/rant/complaint/callitwhatyouwant, they'll get some attention/sympathy. Next day it'll be the same shit only slightly less legitimate, and so on until they stop getting the attention/sympathy they're craving

Absolutely! I knew a guy that was like that.. It was extremely hard to be a part of his life because of all the negativity that he focused on so I had no choice but to cut him out.. You can only do so much..
