I Love Songs That I Can Relate to

I feel that this song is literally my theme song. It is called "Out in the Wide Open World" from the lesser-known animated film "The Princess and the Pea" from Hans Christian Andersen's original story. Unlike the original, however, the princess (named Daria in this film) is meant to marry the prince (who is taken to Daria's father's kingdom from his own, and had been living with him before she was born) as some sort of a prophecy when she was born. However, her father, the king, has an evil, plotting brother who wants his own daughter (Daria's evil cousin who is the same age as her) to be raised in all of Daria's rightly-deserved finery, and marry the prince unfairly in her stead. And so, after Daria's mother, the good queen, dies in childbirth, Daria is kidnapped by her selfish uncle to live on a farm to work for these almost "evil stepparents" who are lazy and make her do all the chores (like Cinderella!) while Daria's father is convinced that the baby who is really his niece is his own daughter, as the evil uncle swapped the niece in slyly after his own wife gives birth and goes on to live. Hopefully you aren't too confused, there!

The song "Out in the Wide Open World" captures Daria's longing to escape her peasant life (as she believes that her true identity is as a peasant, or course!), and oppression, and to make a life for herself. Even though I don't have to do a bunch of chores like that, I have my own wants and dreams, and I want to know that these wants and dreams are not selfish, and that they are what make me human like anyone else. I also like to sing and dance, and I want to believe that I am beautiful, and that there would eventually be someone who would be romantically interested in me (I mean in real life, and I don't believe in online dating!). I want to know that I should be treated politely and with respect, as if I am something like porcelain or glass, and not treated brashly or in a rough manner. I also wish that humans had wings, and could fly like the birds and be free! Especially for the past three-and-a-half years, it has been very hard for me to find true happiness, and to be in the moment. However, with this song, I feel like my own relatable feelings to it are "so right"! :) I hope that my longing and work that I do will eventually pay off, and that I won't need other people to tell me how successful I am, and that I can grasp it myself without anyone else's help. I have gotten frustrated about that, I'll admit. Still, I try to be kind, and I think that I am happiest when I am industrious, and working to make both me and others happy! I don't look so much like Daria, with the very red hair and green eyes (Well, I have dark, even reddish blonde hair and blue-to-green eyes!), but I absolutely love her, and I can agree with some in the YouTube video's comments that she looks like a combination of Princess Aurora from Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" and the titular character from Don Bluth's "Thumbelina"! These were both movies from my childhood, even though "The Princess and the Pea" was unfortunately not so. Also, something unique about Daria's speaking voice that most of the Disney princesses don't have is that she has a British accent instead of an American one (However, you unfortunately can't hear it during this song, as her singing voice is switched to an American accent! That usually the way things are, I know. Take Adele, for instance!) That doesn't keep me from loving it, though! Without further ado, here is the song "Out in the Wide Open World" (my theme song)!
