I Feel Pain For All Abused Children

My S/O was subjected to horrific abuse at the hands of his parents, his father died years ago but he wants me to have some kind of normal relationship with his mother. I'm struggling with this because when I see her I think of him shaking while telling me what she put him through as a kid.

Anyone else have any experience of this?
