I Had to Take My Shoes Off

No Shoes Allowed At Home...
My mother raised me never to wear shoes indoors, it was a rule enforced under threat of death, lol. Well not quite death, but it certainly was stressed. Not that I liked wearing them, but having to take them off at the door the second I got home was embarrassing if I was hot and had smelly socks. I would've preferred to take them off in my room and change my socks in private, but mom told me that was vain, and I guess she was right. Anyway, the habit stuck with me, I can't wear shoes indoors no matter what.

I'm raised in a comunity where everybody takes their shoes off, even visitors. The shoes of rule was more a common thing back home, and nobody realy questioned it. Then my parents became friends With a couple that wore shoes, end even boots indoors. I remember I liked seeing them coming on visit, wearing shoes on Our cream carpet. One day they came visit when it was raining heavely, and walked in dressed in raingear and muddy welies. I took my chance, and walked in without taking my boots of. I still remember the noughty feeling of my wet Wellingtons on the carpet. Loved it !! Ever since I wear shoes indoors, and even wellies when I can. Nothing beat the wonderful feeling of stepping on a carpet, or putting up my feets on the couch, With muddy rubberboots on my feet. Everybody should try it!!!

Same here. Mum would spank me very hard if i wore shoes in the house.
If my socks were wet or smelly they came off.
Slippers were left by the door and I had to out them on when i got home.

Mainly a family thing. I've known other famlies who had a 'no shoes in the house' rule, but none as adamant about it as mom was.

So is it always slippers, are socks uncommon where you are at?

Not taking my shoes off at the door was a definite excuse for Gram taking my pants down. Socks, she didn't care about, but shoes were definitely not allowed.

Is this a family only practice or is it a cultural thing?
