What about little girls? Wearing only skirts seems unfair, since they would also be expected to be "modest" while playing.

That would mean no climbing on the monkey bars, no cartwheels, no headstands, etc.

There is literally nothing in the bible about dresses or pants. At the time people would have worn robe/togs like garments. So they basically had the same style clothes.

Deuteronomy.. Moses' opinions and diktats, basically. Old Testament. So Ancient Hebrew, pre-Christian although the foundations of Judaism and its much later faction that broke away and became Christianity.

So any modern woman now who does not obey a fashion-diktat invented by a pre-Christian, Late Bronze Age mysoginist in one small tribal society in one small area of the world, is not Christian?

Or does the original question really show that there are supposedly-"modern" but narrow-minded men who find it easier to blame God than to admit they regard women as inferior chattels?

I married a Christian husband who has this rule for me which I did (and sometimes do struggle with) but you shouldn't judge people just on one rule, he is very loving and caring and also strict.

@adelesmith That's your personal choice, though you hint at he being religious and you not; and you are free to leave him if his "coercive and controlling behaviour"* becomes unbearable.

However, although we who are lucky enough to live in nations that allow it are free to take up or abandon any religion we wish, that freedom also means that no-one should use religion to excuse thinking one person is inferior to and should be controlled by another, merely for having the opposite reproductive organs.

[*That is the phrase used in law, indeed, the name of the offence, though I realise you might live in a country yet to have a similar law. I assume you would still have the legal right to leave him though.]

@MarkA Deut. 22:5 reads, "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God."

The reasoning, as I understand it, is that outer garments which divide the leg pertain to males, and hence females are forbidden from wearing them. There isn't actually anything in the Bible about this "divide the leg" rule, though. It seems to be a church rule in some denominations.
