I Believe Family Is Very Important

I once set my eyes on him about two to three years ago. He was one of those i cared for in the orthopaedic ward. He was young; aged 14-15 years old, with osteosarcoma. It was just being diagnosed recently, then, and he was still his usual self; joyful, spending time focusing on his videogames and rarely smile or answered questions by himself;all done by his ever loving parents who were always by his side. I left after a few months and never heard of him anymore after.

That changed, yesterday. When he's admitted here; for his cancer has spread elsewhere too, and he's a stage 4 with probably 6 months or less, to go.

I took one look at his name and knew that this was that boy i saw at the beginning of his diagnosis and now i'm seeing again, towards the end of his fight.

He's different. He's changed.

He is still cheerful, but he appeared more matured, more wise than anyone his age is. He no longer spend time with his gadgets, videogames, handphone, but more with the families. He smiles and looks at me, answering all my questions during morning rounds.

And today; during family conference, i shed tears with his families, comforting them while breaking the bad news about him. They knew, of course, and have expected things to end this way.
I realized that these never gets easy. I thought it would, i've been doing this countless of times..but losing someone to death, no matter how natural dying is, is never easy. Especially when they're just kids.

I like it that we think alike. Dying is a natural process and people should embrace it the way they do life. It's hard but helps when you think of them going to a better place.

I think family's important too. Glad that that kid has a good support from his parents and family.

Yeah. I can't bear it, i dare not to wonder what being the parents would feel like.
I guess i was just emotional because i'm a mom. None of my colleagues let these get to their heads.

Its hard to see a child suffering and facing death at a young age, my neighbor was 10 years old when he died of stomach cancer and the funeral was heartbreaking

Jules; He does have good family and social support. Since the beginning. So it's good. Right? At least there's that. This is what this post is about.
