Why the news is extremely biased more than ever

In support of President Ronald R., Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes made a deal with persons of influence in the US which resulted in removing the required balance in reporting and information in news media:

Here is an excerpt with names and references you can research yourself.

“The beginnings of the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine. The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that was in effect from 1949 to 1987. It called on broadcasters to provide balanced views on controversial topics. For many, the end of the doctrine is associated with the rise of conservative talk radio, which flourished once the programming requirements of balance in the name of the “public interest” were eliminated. Indeed, informational radio formats, including talk and public affairs, rose from just 7 percent of AM stations in 1987 to 28 percent by 1995.5 The literature in the communications and political science fields and the accounts of the main actors as told to this author identify a strong causal link between the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine and the advent of talk radio.6 Kathleen Hall Jamieson and Joseph N. Cappella write, “The end of the Fairness Doctrine paved the way for talk .....”

The elimination of the Fairness Doctrine, just like the passage of Citizens United, shifted the dynamic of the country. When the "equal time" laws changed it ushered in Rush Limbaugh and partisan radio was born. The goal then, as it is now, is about creating white grievance, distrust and anger. And that's delivered through fear. You can really mess up people's heads as they're driving to work in the morning. I'm really surprised that there hasn't been more of a push to reinstitute it. Also surprised Biden didn't run on getting rid of Citizens United which is something he says he supports.

But I don't think it's fair to say that the "news" is biased. It's not. Hard news is based on factual reporting. The "bias" argument comes from those who have decided that their belief carries more weight than the truth.

Our world is in decline in many ways. Factual information is hard to find even for those that ernestly seek it.
Any yahoo can get on youtube and spout whatever nonsense they want and if they wear a suit or put a cheap news station background up people take them seriously. Never before have so many people believed in pure nonsense and I mean regarding current events. Worse still our politicians use these theories and propaganda to their advantage.

@REMsleep your last line is exactly right!!!! And THEY call the semblance of truth Fake

Fake news will swallow the greatest liars. No one will be immune

Doesn’t surprise me
Exactly right. And that’s who paved the way for so-called “fake news”.
