Conservatives hate it when a woman is tough and uncompromising. They find it scary. They don't want her to become a model for other women.

The fundamentalists believe God made Eve from Adam's rib to be his helpmate (servant or slave). They believe the way to salvation from original sin is absolute obedience to God, which means that women must obey their husband.

Other Christians may not be fundamentalists, but many still still require a bride to promise to "love, honour and obey" her husband.

For these people, feminism and egalitarianism are against the word (Bible) and will of God. They believe that such movements are Satanic, or at best deluded and dangerous because they threaten to usurp the proper order of society.

They really do believe it and are so profoundly indoctrinated from birth, that they cannot see things in any other way.
To them, even to listen to the arguments and reasoning of the other side is to listen to the Devil.

Fundamentalists didn't exist when the Puritans landed in the Mayflower, or when the American Constitution enshrined religious freedom.
No one back then could have foreseen how religions and their various sects would evolve.

These bigots have no idea how much suffering they cause to others or how pervasive it is.

I loved her speech. She spoke up for women. Many of us have and do experience similar attitudes.

Yes, she’s badass. And the way she’s treated reveals just how much misogyny (and racism) still exists.
