Can someone help me understand the military?

You know how you see people in their little uniform at Boot Camp or whatever, or when you see older people in their veterans uniform in public? Like how do people lose limbs or die if there’s no wars going on right now? Whats it like being in the army or marines?

Just because there is not a current war like ww2 there is still chaos in the world and the US helps. Like in the Middle East, men and women are sent out there to help the citizens. Thefore, being sent out there has ten risk their lives to protect those in need, but they must have join the military for a reason. Unfortunately some do not even return and others lose limbs or come back with not a very stable mindset. Anyway the military is always doing stuff to help others, they not just training in boot camp waiting for a huge war to happen and spring to their feet ready to attack.
I am retired Navy.
You have no idea how many military actions go on every day.

There has never been a time when there is not conflict going on. Most of them never get reported.

You don't hear about a lot of what goes on in the military. My cousin has been deployed to Iraq three times. One week after he got home a friend of his was killed by a roadside bomb. The safe cozy world you see is an illusion only afforded to you because those men and women who put their lives at risk for you.
