Can you get a bachelors masters and phd in all different subjects

This is an debate we are having at work. I have my bacberlors in economics, and masters in finance, but they are basically the same. So could you get a bachelors in say astronomy a masters in something like business management and a doctorate in political science? You wouldn't believe the arguments this has caused last week

it's entirely possible, although for you to make big changes (like from astronomy to business management, or the reverse) the program may require you to go back and pick up some foundational classes to make sure you can make it through the higher level courses. in short, it's possible, but rarely done and could well be a path to madness.

I've seen a large number of people who go from one field to a seemingly unrelated field like.. astronomy to physics or either of those into computer science, but often it's the case there that you need to use so much of X in Y that people end up getting more interested in X than Y.

You would basically have to double major .. you have to apply to the post graduate programs and you have to demonstrate you have adequate background in the subject you have chosen and convince a department head to accept your premise . What you are suggesting would be considered a " stunt " by academia and your application would be denied .

In theory you could, as long as a program accepts you.

@Xuan12 no accredited university is going to turn their post graduate program into a joke

@TexChik Yeah, it doesn't seem likely that highly disparate fields have a good chance of getting accepted. I wouldn't rule out the possibility completely, but I certainly wouldn't bank on something like getting a BA in English and then applying for a master's program in Biology. It would probably take a special case like if you invented a new vaccine while getting your BA in English on the side.
