I Am From New York

DON'T COME TO NEW YORK

We were stopped in a subway car ,lights low, when one of the two stock traders in front of me said "sotto voche" to his companion,"I have one tip for you.....
Naturally I bent unobtrusively forward as he continued,"Save your AC/DC vinyl"

Im much the same way this is a tip,if you're smart, stay out of New York.

Rachel Maddow, recently reported that there were so many New Yorl top legislators in prison they could make two pro MLB squads, nine to a side. Not counting Weiner who Federal.
I knew both State Senate Majority leader and Assembly State leader(s),former were serving time but my reseearch showed they could play an NFL game, all 22 with a few left over.
All top leaders, some who had suceeded a convicted felon were themselves convicted.

This story isn't about corruption at the top but rather how New York seems to assume you're a crimina..and if this cynical view started with these guys,NYs motto is,Excellsior, ever more.

When I started driving if you bought a car privately you simply had the owner siign over the registration, getting a new registration at the DMV. Sure they were sourpusses there and only two lines making the deal time consuming and trying but simple.
Then I read a diturbing story in the llocal "page",some poor soul had sold his mothers car for her, calling his insurance company to get "bridge insurance,ie,if he had to drive that car for the new owner,he was covered. Or so he thought until the cops pulled him over and cited him for "no insurance",a very serious matter. Though the Insurance Co. sent a representitive to assure the Judge they had issued bridge insurance and was covered the judge ruled otherwise and the man lost his license ,paid enormous fines and subsequently lost his job. Excellsior!
I had nmy owwn headache with the insurance thing a few years ago when my car was stolen in front of a pharmacy. It was a trying time and after about a month the police told me it probably was gone for good (as did several friends) but my intuition told me otherwiise and I got a call about ten days later saying it had been found. Yes it had been found, but only because a cranky resident on the street where it had ben left had called multiple times..well it ended wel, right?

I guess...about two months later I was stopped by the police a half block from my house. The light bar reflecting off every surface and mirror of the car while the two cops stood one at each window shining their beam in at me(and their hands very close to theeir holster. A rather unpleasant interview commenced, though I had been stopped for 'prematurely entering a turning lane, ugh! Alas I always change my insurance cards when they come but they had come when the car was gone. I was cited for "no insurance" thoughy my providers have a number they could call OR they might have let me drive the 50 yarrds to my house...NOT!

I had committed paper work crime which is quite xspensive..the changing into the turning lane was "iffy" or so one of them told me as he left to go back to the donut shop!
Excellsior!

The saga continued. I went to re-register the car and one of those happy preople at DMV told me my car was flagged stolen. I asked the woman why the legal owner of a car would want to re-register a stolen car? Nope I had to clear it with the police ,which turned out to be a four hour Herculean task!
Bright and early the next day I presented myself to(oh,no!) the same happy go lucky soul I had the day before....and though the police Captain had "cleared" it not only for NY but Canada,Mexico,Interpol. He had signed it and given his telephone number. No dice, and only when I threatened to speak to her Supervisor was the lost, stolen insuranceless car declared street legal.
New York State now not only puts out a bench warrant within two months for parking infractions,it tries to bar people former New Yorkers from registering their cars all over Europe and the UK....they'll get every cent due them..excellsior!
They were the first state to introduce that commuter favorite,THE RED LIGHT CAMERA TICKET(processed in Cincinnati,Ohio.. Evenmy 93 year old aunt knows the dangers of driving on the two main drags.
Well you might think ,shouldn't we pursue violators..hmm

My mechanic recently had business in New York City, carefully parking in a metered sector and putting in a surfeit of quarters. And when he returned he found ,naturally a ticket the departing meter maid had left. When he angrily asked why he was told*,Don't like it?Call the cops!*
Which he did..the cop just shrugged and said he should pay it...
But mechanics who own Inspection Stations are used to being treated as criminals. In New York not only do they check every safety parameter including emissions, the whole procedure must be video taped and sent to Albany..the Inspectors might be criminals!

I guess the legislator football team who made these laws might have a reason to think everyone is a crook, they are..excellsior

Should I disappear in the next few months, reported shot while resisting arrest..avenge this criminal!
Well I guess, I won't be coming to NY then... That's it then.....

@Soossie: I refuse to apologize for him..I live In NY(see story)and he's been a joke for more than forty years with frivolous self promotion and lawsuits. I didn't vote for him ,nor do I support him!
This one isn't "on me"!
No apologies required.... to me, he is another one in the history, and time will tell ...

I also live in downstate NY, and have never had these experiences. I have lived in other states, and they are quirkier than NY. We are unusual that is for sure, but in a good way! So hang around....the adventure gets more interesting. I ❤️ NY!

@Raffie: I have a friend who lives Upstate,he loves it. But I hear more and more stories like the mechanic's.I am sure it will get interesting,it never ceases to amaze me. I think some of our neighboring states are following our lead. Thanks for the comment
The world is going to hell in a handbasket 😱
I still ❤ NY:)

@sunnypersuasion: Now Sunny I happen to know where you live, you onlyy have to be inspected when you sell...does your inspection have to be video-taped? I went on a bit long on this and has to leave out my mechanics LIVID reaction upon finding he was going to have to install this stuff which is very expensive.I even left out a few crooks!
Not sure about the video taping...but there ARE video cameras everywhere in TO... not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. : /
