I Like Learning New Things

My son's gf took me to Cracker Barrel, an old country store and restaurant. I was admiring the beautiful and skillfully made quilts, when a lady approached me. According to her, the Amish put a flaw in every quilt they make. They do it on purpose to remind the artist and those who see the masterpieces, that only God is perfect.

I admit, if I had to narrow down my list of imperfection/flaws, fear would rise to the top. Fear has reared its ugly head in many different ways in my life, after R. Fear of failure, fear of uncertainty, fear of what people think of me, and many more. But the more I think about it, I have been facing fear head-on for years. You never know when something's going to blow up in your face but facing the fears is setting free the hero in me all along.

On the way home, I continued pondering about imperfections/flaws. I remembered my huckleberry friend on EP. He had many women 'friends.' And "Superman" tripped over his cape once in a while. Hehe, inside story, never to be told again...All heroes have something in common - they all had a fatal flaw. Achilles had his heel. David had Bathsheba. Superman had kryptonite. All the great heroes in literature and life have an area of weakness that has the potential to bring them to their knees.

Maybe that's the way God wants it; our weaknesses/flaws have to be there to remind us that we're human not divine. They force us to lean on someone larger than ourselves. They keep us humble.

So I learned something again: even the beautiful and skillfully made quilts have flaws to remind us that only God is perfect.
