Well, if my life goes to hell because I don't have the best score, I'll let you know so you can rub it in my face. In the meantime, I'll be living my life debt free and on my own terms.

I was the same way. Especially when it came to eating out. Then I realized that the $20 steak dinner actually cost me $100 because I didn't pay the credit card off!!!

@TimSummers That's a good way to look at it. Using a credit card just isn't painful enough for me to be the most responsible I can be with it, so I end up spending more than I meant to.

For example, I ended up paying 60 bucks at a restaurant for sub-par food, when I could have easily looked up the place to know how expensive it was going to be. But because I had my credit card, I spent more than I meant to without even realizing it before it was too late.
Dave Ramsey knows what he's talking about. If you can't pay cash, you can't afford it!

@Notmesam You've taken the course too? He's a pretty smart guy! I'm only on week 4 so far!

I've never had a credit card and have no desire to get one. I have never had a mortgage either nor a payment for a vehicle. I have always been able to pay cash. It can be done. I am not a rich person but I have no debt.

@hippyjoe1955 I've never had debt, but I don't intend to! It's a freeing feeling.

@icewhip Yes you are truly free when you have NO debts except the debt of love. St Paul said "Owe no one anything, except to love each other".

Good for you! I heard this was a great course. I have one major credit card I use for emergencies only. Despite that I have a great credit score. Since money problems can cause stress in relationships, I'd say this was a good choice for y'all!

@OkieGemini Thanks for the support! It's been a great course. I had more of a sentimental attachment to it, and it sort of represented all the things I had worried about concerning credit, like if paying off a credit charge too early would hurt my score, or if not using my card at all hurts my score (mainly concerns about my score). Hearing him say that people can live happy lives without worrying about their score gave me the confidence to let it go.

As I told another commenter, I still have another card I use just to squeeze a few extra bucks out of our gas and food budget, so if something comes up and I absolutely need to build a score for whatever reason, I still can. But it's not worth constantly worrying about.

I am 49 and have never, ever paid a late fee on my card. They hate me. Not saying this is true of you but we live in an entitled culture. Plus, people mistakenly feel like whipping out a card is "paying" for something. It's not!!

@uncalled4 Using a debit card and having that money taken out of your account is paying for it, I think. But there's a difference between that and borrowing money like you own it (AKA, putting it on credit).
