Capricorn in Aquarius [ Part Two

Everyone in that room knew that Mr. Evans had been recruited to oversee this particular disciplinary session, then lock us in the room and go downstairs to the pep assembly taking place that morning. He had told us so several days ago, where he was to make a speech regarding discipline and the students. But he was getting angrier and angrier as he got no response from me. He began again. "Young la- Ow!"

He had rapped the glass so hard it split in his hand and cut his hand. A trickle of blood ran down his palm. He threw the glass into the wastebasket and wrapped his bleeding hand with his handkerchief. It continued to seep steadily. He was bent over in pain as he flung the door open and raced down the hall to the nurse's office.

I saw my chance for freedom and took it. I jumped up and ran out the door. I disappeared into a class of freshman kids boiling into the auditorium. L breathed in a deep breath, shaky in my legs and chest but - freedom, at long last!

I hadn't been to a pep assembly in ever and ever so long - I had been barred from them due to my sessions in the Disciplinary Room. I settled in a seat between two freshman girls and tried to look inconspicious, The girls looked excited and expectant; I was nervous and scared and tried to look bored. Somehow, I wasn't able to carry it off.

I could see the fat old teacher at the end of the last row taking attendance, I hadn't counted in this. I was a bit taller and older than any of the girls, and I knew I looked it, too. I began to sweat copiously.
