Capricorn in Aquarius- Part Two

By the time I emerged into the slanting dusk and starting walking home, I had another detention slip from this teacher - the new head of the discipline office. I was the last in line and tried to talk myself of it, but he refused to listen. "You get what everyone else gets," he growled firmly. What made it worse was he checked my name under a list of about a dozen other kids and he decided I needed something to REALLY shake me up. He signed a blue detention slip (as opposed to the usual buff-colored ones) and handed it to me. I glanced at it and realized I was assigned to the after-school Disciplinary Room sessions for the remainder of the school year.

My heart spiraled down to my feet. I couldn't take this home and show it to Mom - she'd be sure to take that old paddle off the wall, I was certain. If I showed to Daddy, he wouldn't say anything, but he would merely extend my home arrest sentence to coincide with the school days on that thing. I could see a pink chiffon prison closing in on me from all sides. I felt like I wanted to choke.

I coughed on and off all the way home, trying to keep from crying. My mouth was still trembling as I walked in. Mom was in the living room, tending to Daddy, who apparently was well enough to sit up and be out of bed. She left him and came right to me. "You're late again," she snapped. "Where have you been?"

She didn't wait for an answer. She pushed me toward the stairs. "You get to your room and stay there. I mean it this time. I don't want to see your face again until tomorrow morning, you hear?"

I went upstairs without replying. Over Mom's shoulder, I could Daddy's expression. It cut my heart to see the disappointment in it.
