I Write Poetry

Strawberries

The glistening pile of luscious red
Plump like the fair maiden’s lips
Sweet sweet strawberries handpicked
From the overgrowing bush

With peppered freckles and
Woven emerald crowns
The ruby reds from Mother Nature
I took my first cautious bite
Bursting with flavor and dripping
With its nectar
Accompanied with butterflies on my tongue

Every day I take one of the little gems
Nibbling
Savoring
On the delicious fruit
Such joy tingling
Through
With the sweet sweet strawberry held in my hand

I reach into the basket again
Yearning for it again.
Sweet sweet strawberries no longer
And left with their black, crumbled carcasses.
The pungent rotting smell!
The festering betrayal
Banished and exiled
My sweet sweet strawberries
There are strawberry fields forever...
