At Magic Mirror Gate
In the movie Never Ending Story the hero child warrior had to face The Magic Mirror Gate,his companion,a luck dragon, remarks that the hero should have no problem facing that test.
Thier host, Engywook, goes on to explain:
"Oh, that's what everyone thinks! But kind people find out that they are cruel. Brave men discover that they are really cowards! Confronted by their true selves, most men run away screaming!"
I thought about that today and how it relates to inerspection.
Sometimes, it becomes important to face ourselves and if we did have a magic mirror , one that would not flatter our egos nor let us fool ourselves what we do as our pleasant facade melted and we stood face to face with what we really are away from the stage of public life?
Would we face it or run from it?
If we did face it what would we see?
Would our cruel intentions show, would we find ourselves cowards, slaves to complatancey, apathetic, pretending to be strong when weak, pretending to have it all together when we are really lost, scared, and feeling so very small?
Would we learn to be more open or would we shut ourselves off even more?
Would we cover our flaws with arrogance? Or admit to our need and our humanity?
I am not a very open person and I see many other flaws, but I am going to stand here a minute and gaze into that mirror, because I believe change can occur.
I believe that I can improve day by day.
